A slogan t-shirt makes a claim. That is the whole point of one. But when the phrase is about sustainability, the claim gets bigger — a sustainability t-shirt has to be able to stand behind what it says.
A tee reading Spread Love Not Waste, printed on a garment made in conditions nobody will describe, shipped from a supplier nobody can name, is not a sustainability t-shirt. It is a joke at its own expense.
The problem with most sustainability t-shirt slogans
Statement tees have been the easiest product in fashion for a decade. Print a phrase, charge a premium, capture a mood. The phrase costs nothing and the garment underneath is the same blank as everyone else's — slapping "sustainable" on the design doesn't make a t-shirt sustainable.
So the useful question is not what the shirt says. It is what the shirt is.
What to look for in a genuine sustainability t-shirt
- Fabric weight, ideally stated in grams per square metre. Anything under 160 will thin out and lose shape
- Where it was made, named specifically rather than by country
- Print method, and whether the ink will crack after a few washes
- Whether the brand tells you what happens to the shirt at the end of its life

Weight is the quickest signal. A heavier jersey holds its shape through repeated washing, which is the entire difference between a sustainability t-shirt you wear for years and one that becomes a cleaning cloth by summer.
Oversized, and why the cut matters for a sustainability t-shirt
An oversized sustainability t-shirt is not just a larger tee. The shoulder seam sits lower, the body is cut straighter, and the fabric has to be heavy enough to hang rather than cling.
This matters for a slogan piece because the print needs a flat, stable surface. On a thin, close-fitting shirt the text distorts with the body. On a properly cut oversized shirt it stays legible and stays put.
How to wear a sustainability t-shirt without looking like a walking placard
The trick is to let the shirt be the only thing making noise.
Plain trousers, wide or straight. Neutral outerwear. Nothing else with text or pattern on it. A sustainability t-shirt under an open jacket, with only part of the phrase showing, reads far better than the full sentence at full volume.
If the shirt is oversized, balance it. Wide leg trousers with an oversized tee can work if the proportions are deliberate, but one of the two should have structure.
Our sustainability t-shirts

Ours say things we can back up. Spread Love Not Waste. Nothing Is Ever Wasted. Slowly Making Change.
Every sustainability t-shirt we make is produced in our own production hub in Cairo, by artisans we employ and train directly. We can tell you where they were made and who made them, which is the minimum a shirt with an opinion should be able to do.
The oversized fits come in black and white, in sizes S through XL.
